Look Ma, no backpack! The newest version of the Geonics EM61, the MKIIA, eliminates the need to put on a backpack. New brackets on the coils and carry-handle support the battery, electronics and data logger. In addition, the newest rev coils are encased in a plasticized medium that is much more resistant to moisture.
10% discount to the first renter that can supply us with a decent picture of the MKIIA in the field instead of the show-room floor.

November 2007
November has brought with it some welcome additions to the inventory. Exploration Instruments is excited about adding capability to our AGI SuperSting systems by offering 8 channel 56-electrode external Switch boxes. These switch boxes allow us to provide resistivity systems switching through 112 electrodes on the ground at any one time. Extra cables and stakes are available so that you can roll sets of electrodes and gain greater production.

Packages including a switch box and cables are available to clients who already own SuperStings and would like to collect greater amounts of data.
EXI has also added some new devices which we believe will be very useful for those customers involved in concrete imaging and other NDT applications. The HandyScan radar system combines a small, lightweight radar antenna, CPU, and display in a very portable unit. It's greatest convenience will be for quick evaluations where its ease-of-use and weight will be really appreciated by anyone standing on a ladder working walls and ceilings. The systems are available in either Black and White or Color display.

The next GPR class in Austin is December 11-13, 2007.

Early summer has been a time for change and we began by modifying a number of our Geonics EM-38's. For any one measurement, the standard EM38 provides measurements of either quad-phase (conductivity) or in-phase (magnetic susceptibility) component data, as selected by the operator. Comparatively, the EM-38 B provides simultaneous measurement of both phase components, at all times. For surveys which include measurement of both components - common for archaeological investigations - the EM38B significantly reduces the amount of time required.

In addition, we have also added an EM-38 DD. The DD model combines two standard EM-38's and allows the operator to measure either the conductivity or in-phase component, but will measure that component on both horizontal and vertical dipoles simultaneously. It is a much faster way to complete any survey which includes the measurement of both dipole modes.

The summer has been so busy we forgot to post a notice about EXI's new sub-bottom profiling system! The Stratabox from Syqwest Systems is a great, compact system that fills a growing need for our clients. It's ideally suited to in-shore survey work and since it is controlled via your laptop, the shipped system consists of only the transducer, control box and clamping framework. You can view a pdf at this link: Stratabox

We are happy to announce that EXI has taken delivery of two of the very first commercially available Ultra MiniRes's from L and R Instruments! The Ultra continues L and R's efforts to provide extremely accurate resistivity and IP measurements in a single channel meter.
With the introduction of the Ultra, the maximum available current has doubled to 20 milliamps. A third display range of 2000 milliohms has been added to the existing ranges of 20 ohms and 2000 ohms. This will increase the accuracy of recordings in highly conductive areas. The Ultra is available in two operating frequencies - 5 Hz and 2.5 Hz. At the lower operating frequency of 2.5 Hz, it does take a little longer to acquire a reading, but will also allow deeper depths of investigation. Tests have resulted in good readings at "a" spacings of 1000 feet!

EXI is pleased to announce the addition of the Geometrics 24-channel Geode to our rental inventory! Bundled with its own processing software, the Geode boosts our offering to
those who are engaged in MASW and SASW seismic acquistion as well as standard refraction and reflection work.
Our friends at Geonics provided a nice tip which will be welcome by those doing VLF surveys in North America. The Northern Colorado Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance Observatory monitors various vlf frequencies and publishes the data at their website:
http://www.xtrsystems.com/vlf/graph
This will be of help when you are questioning whether a site is up and running or not. We'll maintain a link to them from our web site for your convenience.
August 2005

Our Lacoste and Romberg Model AliodG Gravity Meter has been upgraded with an attached battery housing! This long-awaited upgrade does away with external batteries attached by the 12volt umbilical cord. Employing Lithium Ion technology, you can now go to the field with a small lightweight battery plugged directly into the gravity meter and a spare in your backpack. The weight savings is considerable and the meter can now be carried in a smaller field case.
We are VERY pleased to note that Geonics has updated their web site with available downloads of their manuals and software! This is very helpful to those looking at using their instruments for the first time and need a review of the manuals.
EXI has begun to add the new Juniper Systems Allegro CX Field Computer as the data
logger of choice for EM equipment. The CX continues to run the Windows CE operating system from Microsoft, but new software from Geonics takes full advantage of new firmware to render its operation on the CX much faster than the previous Allegro running Windows CE.
May 2005
The new GSSI Structure-Scan Optical System is now available from EXI. The fusion of a Bar-code reader with Wheel-encoder on the antenna cart enables a user to acquire 3-D data without the necessity of a special mat while longer traverses can still be done with the wheel encoder for great accuracy.

Dr. Essam Heggy of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas sends us this link to an announcement by the Discovery Channel regarding their work in delineating possible meteorite craters in Egypt. EXI was pleased to supply some of the Ground Penetrating Radar equipment pictured.
We are very excited about the deployment of our new 24-Channel seismic Land Streamer ! Using 4.5 Hz geophones spaced at 5' intervals, these streamers should be very helpful for those doing MASW acquisition. The streamers are easily coupled for 48-channel use and we have added a second RAS24 seismic system so that customers can easily field a 48 channel seismic system.
